03-10-23 Ruth has come to us from a breeder to find her forever home. She is a very scared girl, who is overwhelmed to find herself here at the moment. She isn't yet comfortable with being handled and if pushed out of her comfort zone may panic and make the wrong decision. For this reason she will be looking for a calm and quiet, adult only home with no visiting children and adopters who have experience with scared ex-breeding dogs. She will need at least one kind and confident dog in her new home to be her friend and take her under her wing and show her that life isn't so scary after all. She has never lived in a home before so her adopters will need to be understanding as she settles in and learns about home life and new skills like house training. She doesn't yet know how to walk on a lead and harness and this will need to be gradually introduced to her, first around the home and garden until she is confident enough to venture outside. She will need lots of kindness and TLC as she begins to adjust to her new life, but we can see there is a very sweet girl waiting to emerge, she just needs time to settle and begin to trust. Ruth has a PETS travel document which says she is 1 but our vet feels she is closer to 4 years old.

04-11-23 UPDATE

Darling Ruth is still very wary of humans but we have made some incredible progress as you can see from the pictures she's slowly accepting love into her little bubble . There is still a long road ahead for young Ruth but that road is filled with love and patience, guidance and support. A suitable home would be an adults only with experience in traumatised dogs and a resident dog for emotional support and guidance and her personality will shine .

29-12-23 UPDATE

I met Ruth for the first time today and as a new member of staff I can honestly say she's very sweet and just needs a lot of loving and care. She is nervous and likes to stay in her bed most of the time. However, with a lot of patience and love she will soon come out of her shell. She will need to be in an adult only home and with another resident dog in order for her to learn from and adapt to her new environment. Ruth is currently learning to walk with a harness as she doesn't understand the concept of being out and about with other people at the moment. She has a lot of confidence to gain before she will be able to embrace and fully enjoy her walks. Ruth eats well and with other dogs but doesn't like it if someone is stood there watching her. Ruth also loves to play with toys and doesn't mind sharing them with other dogs. She tends to take the toys into her bed with her.
Ruth would make a great companion and just wants all the love and care she deserves. I believe there is a forever home out there for her and fingers crossed her stay here won't be for much longer.

18-03-24 UPDATE

Ruth has very sadly returned as the resident dog didn't want to share her owner.  She has come straight to foster and is a very sweet girl who is trying so very hard to be brave and accept strokes etc. She does come to me for strokes and seems to like a fuss but only when she knows you. She is now accepting people she doesn’t know to gently approach her and does nudge their hand and allow them to touch her. If you approach her quickly she will run away but her tail does wag and she really wants to be just like any other dog.
Ruth has got a strong bond with me and one of my dogs and follows us everywhere. For some reason she won’t eat out of a bowl and only eats if her food is placed on a licky mat or placemat (I am working on this). She also absolutely hates being on a lead and does somersaults to try and get it off. I have found that ignoring that behaviour and just coaching her to walk with the lead quite slack is a little better.
Ruth is fine with cats and dogs and would love a calm resident dog that will allow her to do her own thing. This poor girl has already been returned once so her new adopters will really need to understand that it is going to take some time for this beautiful girl to adjust. It’s not going to be a quick fix and it’s not going to happen overnight but I truly believe that given time and patience she will be the most loyal dog.

24-04-24 UPDATE

Questioning why this wonderful girl is still here in kennels! Ruth truly has blossomed into a wonderful, happy lady! She is such a special girl to both of her kennel mums and we are positively over the moon with how much she has progressed from such a scared and worried girl who would spend her days sitting in the back of the kennel to this playful happy lady who enjoys bouncing about the yard with her friends or receiving some well deserved scratches from us. Ruth was pampered this week and had a groom from some wonderful groomers who gave up their own time to help us at the rescue. They said how wonderful she did and allowed them to wash, brush and blow dry; but she was a little hesitant around her face. Previously she had to be sedated in order to even attempt to groom her so this really is huge step for little Ruth. I honestly cannot praise enough how well this girl has done, she just needs to find that special someone who’s willing to give her a chance

14-05-24 UPDATE
This beautiful girl is still waiting to be chosen and I would like you all to see the wonderful greeting that me and her other kennel Mum get when we walk past her kennel, and this is an everytime thing! If she sees us then she will be at the front of her kennel with her tail wagging, trying to get a fuss and some love. She walks on a harness, but does require more confidence with this and her new people will have to be 100% safety conscious, double leading and a 3 strap harness are essential for this girl as her safety in scary situations is absolutely paramount. She has three best friends here in kennels and seems to love other poodle types or larger bichons the best, she isn't keen on new dogs being too in her face too soon, so will require a resident dog that will bond with her at Ruth's pace. Underneath her worry, she is one of the loveliest girls you could meet and in the right home, with the right people, she will make a wonderful addition. She shares beds, food and toys once she likes her new pals.

04-06-24 UPDATE
Today is the 8 months anniversary of Ruth arriving in kennels and sadly she is still incredibly overlooked and  therefore, stuck in kennels. This breaks my heart as she is such a beautiful girl, inside and out, and for no one to see that or to want to give her a chance is so sad. Ruth does know how to walk on a 3-strap harness with a slip lead as well, but she needs to gain lots more confidence and her new humans will need to be experienced and safety-concious enough to help her with this. She would really benefit from lots more practice in the safety of a large garden before attempting proper walks. Ruth can be dog selective and she does not like overly eager dogs that are in her space too quick, she seems to prefer males in general but does also have a best mate in a playful poodle called Best. I really hope that Ruth doesn't have a 9th or 10th month anniversary here in kennels.

23-07-24 UPDATE

Week one in foster and Ruth really likes her home comforts she is always on the sofa bless her. She has started to enjoy being fussed, but is still scared when trying to pick her up. Her house training is going well and she has started to eat food even with us watching as she wouldn't before, although she won't eat out of a dish so we put her food onto a lick mat, but we are working with her on this issue. Ruth will need a home with a resident dog that will respect her space.

Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
